 Is Ajaccio France worth visiting?

If you don’t know what to do in Ajaccio, here is an article that could serve you well.

A few months ago, we were in Ajaccio for a week, just to enjoy the climate of Corsica and for the travel bloggers fair.

Today is the time to share our experience with you and give you some advice on what to do in Ajaccio! Ajaccio is a good destination for holidays and you can find nice accommodation there or rather go on a rental in the south of Corsica a little further down.

The ridge path

Departing from the city center of Ajaccio, along the coast, the ridge path will take you in about 3 hours to the reliefs of the Sanguinaires islands.

It is a hiking trail accessible to all, there are no difficulties on the course. The only difficulty is the heat, which can be a problem in summer or during hot weather, because there are no shaded areas on the ridge path.

The landscapes are really worth the detour, you feel lost in the middle of nature facing the sea.
A word of advice, if you have the opportunity to go there in spring or autumn it is even more beautiful, the colors of the maquis are more vivid and it is less hot.
If you don’t know what to do in Ajaccio, here is THE hike not to be missed! 😉

Cultural visits

If you like culture, you will find several interesting museums in Ajaccio. First of all we can tell you about the Fesch Museum, the museum of fine arts. You will find there one of the finest collections of old paintings in France as well as beautiful Napoleonic pieces.

Speaking of Napoleon, did you know that Napoleon was born in Ajaccio? You will retrace its history in the Maison Bonaparte, the former family home transformed into a museum. The visit is interesting for the most curious!

Discover canyoning

For the more athletic, we strongly recommend that you practice canyoning during your visit to Ajaccio. The Richiusa canyon is an interesting canyon for beginners, but also for the more experienced.

Canyoning of the Richiusa with Corsica Natura

We evolved in this canyon between zip lines, abseils and various jumps 🙂 The decor is magical and in addition you take the opportunity to discover a new activity.
It is a sporting activity, but above all unforgettable with guaranteed sensations.

We recommend the Corsica Natura agency for your Canyoning, we really had a good time!
If you don’t know what to do in Ajaccio, this is a perfect activity!

The old Genoese town, in the heart of Ajaccio

This district of the city of Ajaccio is considered the heart of the city in the eyes of Ajacciens. This district was the first built by the Genoese in 1492 and remains today an emblem for Ajaccio. You will find many cafes, but also restaurants with Mediterranean charm.

The citadel of Ajaccio

If you only have to try one restaurant during your stay in Ajaccio, we recommend restaurant 20123! A restaurant like at home with Corsican and Ajacciennes specialties.

Enjoy local specialties

Finally, throughout your stay, local specialties are a must! Charcuterie, beers, but also cheeses, you will find every day on the market square, a craft market where you will have the opportunity to taste local and regional specialties.

We still remember months later the Coppa and the Pietra 🙂

CHARCUTERIE the way we like it!

During our stay, we traveled by car and it was very convenient!

If you decide to go south after a few days in Ajaccio, you will find more information in one of our next articles 🙂
