Many people want to know how to start e-commerce. If your goal is to make a quick profit, you must change it to achieve a profitable, scalable and continuous business. You must have a long-term vision to build an asset that delivers real value to the market.
Online retail is a booming business. But I’ve seen a lot of e-commerce companies struggling to gain traction. It took me years to learn everything listed on this page. I am so disappointed when people send me e-commerce websites filled with hundreds of products and dozens of categories without the slightest level of focus.
You can’t be the next Amazon without a fancy budget. So you have to specialize in a category to manage your online store profitably.
Choosing your niche is the most important step in opening your online business. Begin this research process by identifying successful companies in your area of interest.
Make sure the area is competitive, as the absence of competition usually indicates that there is no market as well. But don’t choose an overly crowded niche, and skip anything dominated by the big brands. If you’re having a hard time, research more about what you want to do, the more specific you are, the less competition you’re likely to face.
Defining your niche also helps the benefit of having lots of affiliates related to what you do. You can work with business owners in these areas to cross-promote, become (or acquire) an affiliate, and grow your customer base.
Choose a product category with at least 1,000 keywords and focus on a niche that works and is easy to market in social media. If you can get some affiliate marketing opportunities, you won’t have to worry about shipping as much product as possible, but you can still make a profit.

Actively seek mentors and listen to their advice. One of the smartest decisions I ever made was to find someone who could show me the right path.

As an online product seller, you will have a lot of competition. Whatever design you choose, it should be compatible with your e-commerce software as well.

You need to carefully evaluate things like loading speed, features, compatibility with different payment gateways, compatibility with your project structure, your web developer skills, SEO friendly features, and more.
Once you have decided on starting your own e-commerce store, do not hire a “CRO Expert” or an expensive development company. It won’t cost you more than $100 to get a good template, depending on the shopping cart you choose and what you offer.
