Alabama State University (ASU) is a historically black university located in Montgomery, Alabama. It was founded in 1867 as the Lincoln Normal School, and in 1874 it became the first state-supported college for African Americans in Alabama. Today, ASU is a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a variety of fields.

ASU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The university offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its five colleges: College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and College of Visual and Performing Arts.
