These methods are based on 11 years of professional blogging experience. I’ve also shared screenshots of the payments of a few sources of income to give you a broader perspective.

If this is your first time here at Dz Techs, I browse the profit from the Internet articles for additional details.

A few years ago, blogging was just another hobby some people had in addition to working full-time jobs. Today, blogging still works this way, but a lot has changed.

In this year, blogging has become a lucrative online profession and people in general have started blogging in order to benefit and join this noble profession.

Before we learn the different ways to make a profit from blogging, let’s get to know some details.

How much money can you make from blogging?

Just like any profession (doctor, lawyer, financial advisory), there are different levels of bloggers who earn anywhere between $1,000 and $2 million per year.
The above graph is the income graph of a foreign blogger. In 2009, she started earning just $434 per month, and now this blogger is earning over $30,000 per month.

The amount of profit you can make depends only on some factors such as:

Which niche do you choose?

How much time do you devote to learning and implementation?

How much traffic you drive to your blog.

What digital marketing techniques do you implement?

There are many other factors such as consistency, social network, personal motivations and goals that also contribute a lot.

However, your niche and digital marketing skills can help you move very quickly in the blogosphere.

You can browse other articles from Dz Techs to learn more about mindset and motivation, but in this guide, we will focus only on making money blogging.

Just to make things easier for you, I have answered several frequently asked questions related to blogging at the end of this guide.

What are the ways to profit from blogging (different income streams)

There are many ways you can use to monetize your blog. Depending on your level of blogging and type of blog, you can choose the method that matches your style. Check out the end of this article to get answers to many important questions bloggers like you have been asking.

  • Advertising networks such as AdSense and Media.net.
  • direct ads.
  • Affiliate marketing.
  • Native ads.
  • Paid reviews/sponsored posts.
  • Selling digital products (e-books, charts).
  • Start an online course.
  • Provide online consultations.
  • Provide services based on your skills.

Apart from traditional forms of ads, you can work on other monetization tricks. Instead of just adding ads, work on adding value for your advertiser.

It is better to have 1 high cost ad than 4 low cost ads.

1. Ad Networks (For Beginners)

Ad networks are the simplest and most widely used way to monetize blogging.

The most popular ad networks are:

  • Google AdSense (provided by Google)
  • Media.net

You must have a blog to get consent to display ads from these networks. It automatically displays ads based on the context of your article and also based on the interest of the user. Most of the new blogs use these methods for monetization because they provide recurring income. Since the ads displayed are of high quality, they do not affect the user experience.

If your blog has less than 300 views/day, there are other ad networks listed here that you can use. However, your goal should be to get approval from AdSense or Media.net as soon as possible.

If you are using contextual ads but not making enough profit this way, you should try to switch to direct ads or referral ads.

2. Affiliate Marketing: (the most profitable way): Intermediate + Advanced

Affiliate ads are one of the best ways to make a profit because one sale will make you much more money than one click on a contextual ad.

It is an option that most bloggers use these days and it is one of the most profitable ways to make money from blogging.

If you’re new to it, read my beginner’s guide on what affiliate marketing is.

In the screenshot below, you can see the income from one of the referral networks in the period of one month:

Here are some popular affiliate markets you can join:

  • Amazon Affiliate programme
  • ShareASale
  • PartnerStack
  • ImpactRadius
  • Awin
Commission Junction

Another great thing about affiliate marketing is that you can use this technique on any blogging platform like Wix, Squarespace, Medium, or even LinkedIn.

All you have to do is share your unique referral link for the product you are recommending, and when someone makes a purchase, you will end up earning a huge commission from the sale value.

Affiliate marketing is the perfect way for many bloggers to make millions of dollars every year from their blogs.

3. Your e-books have sold: (average)

If you’ve noticed, the business model of the big bloggers has to do with selling their own products like e-books.

All you need to do is pick a topic, put together an e-book on that topic, and put it up for sale on your blog or on Amazon. Once you get used to the process, you can earn a decent amount of money by selling eBooks online.

Moreover, having your own product to sell is the best thing you can do to generate passive income.

You can compile your articles into a well-organized book and sell it on your blog or on other platforms like kdp.Amazon.com to make money. This will also give you the credibility to become a writer.

I have created three such books and have sold them on different platforms. Here at Dz Techs I use the EDD WordPress plugin to sell books and you can see an example listing here.

One of my most famous books “The Affiliate Marketing Book” is also sold on Amazon and this adds recurring income.

You can use a freelance network like Fiverr to get someone to design your book cover.

You could also consider selling physical products on your blog using WooCommerce.

4. Native ads

Native advertising has been one of the leading options for making money blogging. In particular, news and job blogs can generate really high income with native ads.

There are some native advertising solutions that are worth your time and effort to implement.

  • Taboola
  • Outbrain (high quality native ads)
  • Mgid
  • AdSense (AdSense also offers native ads)
5. Online Course Launch (Membership Website): Advanced

Can you convert your textbook into video format?

Can you add a checklist and downloadable templates?

Can you create a 1-2 hour video course

If your answer is yes, then this method is definitely for you. Thanks to technology, now launching an online course is easy for anyone and if you are offering a unique course, your chances of reaching the million dollar goal are really high.

To give you an idea about selling your course online, below is a screenshot of ShoutUniversity, where you can learn WordPress, Affiliate Marketing, and AdSense just by watching videos.
You can use platforms such as:

  • LearnDash (WordPress)
  • New Kajabi
  • teachable
To create and sell your online course.

6. Direct ads (average)

There is no doubt that the AdSense network is the best advertising option for bloggers, but it has some limitations. The biggest limitation is how much you are paid per click.

If you can get direct ads, exchange those AdSense units with direct ads instead.
The best way to get started with direct advertising is to try different networks and add a page on your blog called “Media-kit or advertise with us” to get new deals.

You can also use an add-on like WPAdvancedAds to manage ads.

The best way to do this is to create a professional email address like hello@domain.com using Google Apps.

(Optional) Then use HubSpot free CRM to set up the process. The workflow below is what I use here at Dz Techs to handle queries like this.

You can set this up on Hubspot free CRM and it will improve your workflow in a great way.

7. Funded Reviews (all levels)

Paid reviews are a great way to increase your monthly income. You can quickly earn $10 or more from a small review article. Personally, I make at least $120 from each review at Dz Techs.

Here are some websites to find paid reviews / sponsored content opportunities:

  • Famebit (for YouTube channels)
  • Izea Pay per post
  • Tomoson
  • revcontent
8. Start a Branding Campaign: (Intermediate and Advanced)

This blog is perfect for any type of blog with an established fan base. You can help brands reach their target audience by managing the campaign for them. For this, you will work on brand collaborations, conducting webinars, and even paid advertising or creating videos.

You will see an increasing number of blogs doing this with many brands. Keep an eye on this genre as it is already becoming one of the most popular ways to monetize blogging.

9. Services

Depending on your skills, you can provide various services. Depending on what you are good at, you can offer services like content writing, logo creation, SEO, etc.

In the past, I have been providing WordPress, SEO, and related hosting services. Not only does offering services help you make money, but it also gives you more use cases that help you hone your skills.

In fact, launching your own services is very easy. All you have to do is create a page on your blog and list the services you offer. Make sure to place the link to that page in the main navigation bar of your blog and in a prominent area for maximum visibility.

Make it easy for your audience to contact you and inquire more about your services. When you take on your first 2-3 clients, you will have plenty of ideas to improve the process of selling your services. In fact, you will be able to automate some things like payment and follow-up.

Can you write a blog about your life and make money blogging?
This is another growing form of blogging where many people talk about their daily lives and create a community around doing so. You might have seen a lot of them on YouTube as a vlogger and you can do the same on the blog or even on YouTube.
Some popular topics for this type of blogging are:
  • lifestyle.
  • Fashion and beauty.
  • travel.
  • Stimulus.
  • entertainment
  • Food and food recipes.
The key here is to keep things entertaining, add value, and build a community around your brand. Depending on your style and consistency, you can make a lot of money with this strategy.
A lot of beginners also ask, should I focus on blogging or vlogging?
Well, it’s good to have a mixture of the two. Producing video content (recording, editing and publishing) takes time and money, while creating textual content takes less time. A good mix of both approaches will help you grow faster and start making big profits sooner.
Gone are the days when we bloggers only depended on AdSense to make money from blogging. Now we have many different ad networks and monetization methods available with which we can greatly increase the income potential of the blog.
If you’ve been using these traditional methods to make money from your blog, it’s time to review your blogging business plan. Make some new edits, change the design and improve the marketing aspects of your blog.
Frequently asked questions about how to make money blogging
Can you actually make a profit from blogging?
I am living proof of someone who can make a good living by blogging. Much of this depends on how stable and persistent you are. In my case, I’ve been working almost 14 hours a day for 4 years to get to this point where I’m earning a lot per month from blogging.
As the internet space has matured, there are now more opportunities to make money with blogging. The only thing is that you need to be consistent for about a year before you start making decent money quitting your job or planning your life with blogging income.
What should I blog about to make a profit?
If you don’t feel like writing a blog about your life and you’re wondering what’s the best topic from a blogging monetization perspective, here are 4 factors to consider:
Passion: Things you are really passionate about or have an interest in. This choice doesn’t have to be something you learn at the academy or at your job, but it can be something as simple as something you help your friends and family do and others contact you for your opinion. For example, cars, food, finance, travel. Take a pen and paper, and write your “passion list” on it. Now, list every topic that you think you have an interest in and can blog about.
Traffic and direction: You may want to ensure that there is good traffic and interest in the topic you have discovered by creating your passion list. The search trends will give you an idea of whether this topic is growing or dying. Trends.google.com is a free tool that allows you to gauge the trend of expected traffic for any topic.
Monetization: The third factor that will help you find a profitable blogging idea is the monetization option. You need to know how you plan to monetize your blog. Will it be through an advertising network like AdSense or will it be affiliate marketing? To give you perspective, “Whatsapp” as a topic is growing very fast and you might be excited about it, but the monetization sucks. Even with high traffic, making money is negligible.
Competition: This is the last factor, not the least. If you are entering a competitive niche, you will find it difficult to stand out and also outperform the existing competitors. I don’t mean to discourage you but if you have a choice between two or three subjects, choose the medium or low competition one. If you end up choosing the broader field, say fashion, in a competitive niche, it will take a few extra months to get decent traffic. So, you have to keep that in mind when looking at the competition.
I suggest you browse more Dz Techs articles to get a clear understanding of choosing a particular niche.
How will you get paid for blogging?
Your advertisers may be located in a different part of the world and there are 5 common ways you can receive payments from all over the world. These are also common ways these companies pay.
PayPal
Payoneer
Transferwise
Wire transfer (your bank)
CoinBase (Cryptocurrency Payment)
Once you start making money, it’s a good idea to have an account on all of the above-mentioned services that allow you to receive payments. All of them are free to join and easy to use. You can also use these above services to pay future freelancers or virtual assistants.
There are a lot of ways you can make money blogging, but I would recommend that you don’t tire yourself out and instead do them one by one.
All of the above ideas work great, and you should know what works best for your blogging domain.
